Glossier Phase 1 Skincare Set

It’s no secret that between the ages of 11 and 19 you are likely to struggle with skin problems of some sort and these problems can often continue into your adult life. As a 17 year old, I am no exception and have struggled with a constant array of spots and redness since the age of 13. While I am aware that my skin is certainly not the worst and that many people suffer far more severely, it doesn’t stop it knocking my confidence. As a result I have trialled many different skincare systems and skincare products and for my Birthday I was lucky to be gifted the Glossier Phase 1 Skincare Set.

The First thing that struck me when unboxing the set was how beautifully it was packaged. Glossier is a brand clearly aimed at a younger market, with the use of simple and sleek packaging and accents of millennial pink, its any millennials aesthetic dream come true. I particularly loved the fact the products came in a pink bubble wrap pouch, made from materials sturdy enough to be reused as a makeup/toiletries bag. Another playful touch was the stickers that accompanied the products, another marketing trait which perfectly suits a younger market but also adds a more personal and niche touch to the brand.

Now the all important packaging has been discussed it’s time to move onto the actual products. The first of which being the Milky Jelly Cleanser. The website describes it as the “ultimate daily facial wash” and states it is suitable for removing makeup, in a gentle way which removes impurities and does not leave the skin feeling tight. It’s also stated that the cleaning power comes from the same source as the gentle cleansing agents used in contact lens solution and therefore the product should not irritate eyes.  When using the product the consistency was admittedly not what I expected it to be: which was a gel like white milk. It was instead a clear gel which when mixed with water turned into a liquid milk which almost sunk into the skin. The formula whilst not being strong enough, in my opinion, to remove makeup (especially if it’s waterproof) does remove all impurities and leaves your skin feeling fresh and clean, providing you remove your makeup before hand. In terms of moisture, this cleanser is certainly one of the best on the market, for someone who has extremely dry skin even the most mild cleansers leave it feeling tight, however this cleanser was the exception and my skin was left feeling hydrated and extremely clean.

Following the cleanser is the Priming Moisturiser.  On the website the product claims to “instantly bring out the best in your skin” by visibly plumping your skin with moisture and minimise the appearance of pores. The website also states the product contains an anti-redness complex which smooths and balances the skin. Finally it is said that the product is buildable to suit the level of moisture you may need. Unfortunately, this product was the only one to some what disappoint me. I expected it to be of a much thicker consistency than it was and as I have very dry skin it requires a lot of product for  my skin to feel hydrated after using the product. Although this product didn’t work for me, I am certain that on a normal/oily skin type it would work perfectly and maybe it would be worthwhile for myself and anyone else with a dryer skin type to try out the Priming Moisturiser Rich to see if it works to hydrate the skin better, whilst using a smaller amount of product.

Finally included in the set is the Balm Dotcom. This was by far my favourite of the products in the set and seeing as it was a birthday present I received it in the birthday balm flavour (which tastes fantastic by the way). This lip balm is every dry, flaky lipped girls dream. It is, as the product description states long lasting and extremely hydrating. You also only need the tiniest amount of it to experience the full benefits so you definitely get a lot of bang for your buck with this one. When reading up the product description to write this post I also was interested to discover that you can use this product on the dry patches of your skin as a skin salve, and as you’re well aware and probably sick of me mentioning, this would work wonders on my dry skin and I look forward to try it when I get one of those annoying dry patches which any makeup I put on my face sticks to.  I have no bad things to say about this product and could go on raving about it until I’m blue in the face.

So to conclude, whilst the cleanser and lip balm were phenomenal, unfortunately the moisturiser didn’t work so well on my skin type, however I look forward to trying the Priming Moisturiser Rich to see if it works any better and I will be sure to update you if it does. I think it’s also important to take into consideration that this skincare system will not drastically improve blemish/acne prone skin and I do think it is aimed at those of you fortunate to have clear skin that just needs an extra boost of moisture. In terms of value the set sits at £35, which is in my opinion a great price for the amount of product you are getting and is also a £8 saving on if you were to buy the products separately. You do also get a reusable storage pouch and sheet of stickers absolutely free. So would I repurchase this particular set? probably not as it doesn’t suit the needs of my skin perfectly. But would I purchase from the brand again? definitely, the packaging is beautiful and I already have my eye on an array of other products I’m dying to try and as soon as I do I will share it with you too.

Until next time, bye!
